As part of the Canary Islands, Tenerife, Spain showcases a wide range of interesting beaches. Most of which are made of volcanic sand that are black, thus making it a bit unappealing to some tourists. But because Tenerife is a major tourist destination not just in Spain but throughout Europe as well, tourism authorities have sought plenty of funds to invest in creating fabulous man-made beaches and even used golden sand that is imported from the Sahara.

North Coast

Playa del Roque, which is located on the northern part of the island, has great waves that surfers would surely enjoy. The beaches of Benijos and Almáciga may be smaller but they are as attractive. However, of the beaches in the north coast, the ones in Puerto de la Cruz are the best. Playa Jardin, which is the town’s main beach, highlights its sand which was extracted from the seabed. It is also lined with fabulous gardens which are secured well to make it safe even for children.

South Coast

The best beaches in Tenerife lie in the southern coast. Some of these are in Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, and in Playa de las Americas. A number of these beaches were even recognized for the cleanliness and were awarded a European Blue Flag.

West Coast

Tenerife’s west coast is made up mainly of rocky coves. One of these is Playa Paraiso, which is located 10 km from Costa Adeje. Callao Salvaje and Playa de la Arena are smaller beaches which are a bit stony yet attractive in its own way.

East Coast

If you are looking for great beaches, the east coast of Tenerife may not have much to offer. However, although not as magnificent as other beaches in the south coast, the beaches in the east coast like the sandy beaches of El Médano and Playa de El Cabezo offers a perfect place to do windsurfing.

There are many reasons why Tenerife attracts thousands of tourists year after year; its beaches are just one of those reasons.
